The Poetry Channel Smart-Card
Ere this day dawned I was most grievous vexed.
I had to be content with tempting glimpse
of unblocked preview till the fuzz
of scrambled signal did corrupt the view,
continuing with but the sound of verse
from th'unseen, droning Poet-of-the-Day.

But yestermorn, I bought the Poetry
Channel SmartCard from Radio Rentals,
allowing me to watch as well as hear
betwixt 11.45 and 12
each alternate Monday when there's a 'v'
in the month. Civilisation at last!

Of course, the channel shares its frequency
with Blue TV, Quiz World and Cartoon Plus
and, of the 15 minutes, ten are ta'en
with trailers and commercials, but it's worth
the tank-of-petrol annual subscription
for five minutes of programming at the end

where, this week, Philip Larkin's great poem,
Going Going's being serialized.
So farewell cynic and ye malcontents!
For full five minutes twice each November,
if we remember, we can be enriched!
