Fair siren ...
Fair siren, I’d commit a monstrous crime
were I to brave you with my brutish reach.
We’re at two extremities of lovers’ prime,
at facing ends of the bay’s curving beach,
but siren, I have dreamed of one small ‘yes’
from two sweet eyes which have eclipsed my sun.
Words can’t tell nor poetry express
nor music sing of what your eyes have done!
No treasure from the richest ocean buys
back one flicker from my youth now spent,
so freeze me with those day-eclipsing eyes
and I’ll be an ice-man till the years repent!
O, gentle gem, forgive these dreams of mine.
Thoughts fly blissward from vistas this divine!
