This is me reciting the poem below (1 min, 58 seconds)
A Lover’s Farewell
Smash all the clocks! Let time be stopped!
Let all life in its prime be cropped!
Let all the nuclear bombs be dropped
and all things end!
Let all the gods at once be slain
and, of their words, let none remain
and let their arrogant disdain
no more offend!
“It profits thee that if thine eye
offendeth thee, to let it die”,
but scripture does not specify
the tainted ticker.
My own heart’s envy gives offence,
so shall I therefore pluck it hence
and thus win heaven’s recompense
a little quicker?
Time was I sang a merry song
before my happy days went wrong.
Now, there’s no reason to prolong
a life polluted.
I left the door to Shangri-la
(that diamond-studded door) ajar.
Now, down in hell, my sorrows are
herewith transmuted.
O, do not fear my bitter prayer.
These words are only puffs of air;
just worthless cuffs for me to wear
upon my sleeve.
This writing has no will to harm.
See, it dissolves upon my arm.
My curses melt. Now all’s as calm
as Christmas Eve.
Once more I am my world’s best friend
and I’ll redress what I can mend.
Those clocks that I destroyed, I’ll send
to be repaired
and though I made my brothers bleed,
replacements for them I will breed:
my wives and they and you will need
no more be scared.
Repopulated, Earth will thrive.
Its new gods will remain alive
and for Utopia will strive
against the stream
Still we will know not what we do.
Ev’n so, may life be good to you.
May every wish you have come true
and every dream.
