The road from Joy to Miserable Gloom
is one with which I’m very well acquainted.
I know all its hotels, nay, every room
and all its churches, garlanded and sainted.
Hire me for the trip! I know the way:
a broad, tail-winded, downhill, one-way street.
I’ll book you into places you can stay
and I’ve researched the joints where you can eat.
My own descent was slow, but you can zoom.
The outer-lane expressway takes you past.
Before the gloaming we’ll arrive in Gloom,
where, like the tropics, nightfall follows fast.
